We have noticed that graduates of Essentials of IFS, as well as the IFS Institutes Level 1, are typically proficient in

• helping clients recognize parts as parts

• fleshing out Protectors

• helping clients bring more acceptance to parts, even when they are problematic

• mapping the various parts at play in the system

• noticing when their own therapist parts are interfering and gaining some space from them

Often, they are not comfortable moving through the steps of unburdening, such as

• identifying an Exile after asking the 6th F

• finding scenes from the past where the Exile is stuck in trauma

• orchestrating an intervention, or “do over,” to create a desirable outcome for the Exile

• retrieving the Exile into the present

• unburdening traumatic feelings and beliefs

• inviting lost qualities back into the system

According to Bruce Ecker’s view of memory reconsolidation, these steps, especially the “do over,” are what create transformative change, the actual neutralizing of traumatic memory.  Otherwise, we are offering only counteractive change, or improved coping.

Our Essentials II course is intended to provide access to your full IFS toolbox, so you can confidently offer the most powerful IFS tools to your clients.  It takes some effort to learn the steps, as well as enough practice to comfortably move through the protocol.  But after each round of triad sessions, we expect that you will be one step closer to using these powerful tools and watching your clients experience relief from their trauma. The course is open to graduates of Essentials of IFS, as well as graduates of equivalent programs.

The course will be taught by Elisa Cabal, Kim Welch, and Ted.  Elisa is currently Ted's co-teacher for Essentials and Kim has been supporting us with triad facilitation so that we can cover 18 students each Friday.

What to expect:

When: Wednesday mornings for 12 weeks (September 23 - December 16)
Time: 10:00 - 11:30
Class size: 9 - 12 students
Structure: Module - 3 triads - module - 6 triads - module

The three modules will cover topics of special interest:
Module 1 - Connecting to Self: Bringing Self-energy into the room and embodying Self for your client (facilitated by Elisa Cabal)
Module 2 - Unblending & The U-turn‍: Strengthening your ability to facilitate unblending, guide effective U-turns, and use Direct Access to support deeper Self-to-part connection (facilitated by Kim Welch)
Module 3 - A Deeper Dive into Polarity & Polarization: Presencing the polarity that we live in, so we can help clients navigate it with Self-leadership (facilitated by Ted RIskin)

We are also offering the option of enrolling in modules or triads only.

We will provide a certificate of completion for up to 18 hours (depending on attendance), providing credits for NC social workers, and we have applied to CRCC for CE for counselors.
