3 Videos About the Critic and Anger

Excerpted from two classes of Essentials of IFS Level II, these vidoes suggest that the notion of right and wrong does not naturally exist, and is instead a legacy burden typically held by a part we tend to call “The Critic.” In the first video, we get curious about the job that the Critic, inner and outer, is doing for us.

In the second video, we discuss consequences of allowing the Critic to blend, with its belief in right/wrong. We consider whether we could handle the needs of the Inner Critic by listening more to parts concerned about the future, and those of the Outer Critic by rehabilitating the function of angry parts. (A full description of possibilities for welcoming back angry parts is at bit.ly/angerslides.) If we release the legacy burden of right/wrong, the Critic can serve us well, and shame can be appreciated as a force for community cohesion.

In the third video, we cover some thoughts about working with the Inner Critic.

Note that everything discussed in these videos should be considered as a suggestive map of the inner system and not used to override our ability to directly observe the system with IFS and ask parts what they are up to.
